Susan
Lind
Jun 15, 1937 — Dec 31, 2024
Manitowoc
Susan FitzGibbon Lind, age 87, passed away peacefully on December 31, 2024, surrounded by her loving family. Born on June 15, 1937, to the late Wayne and Frances (Balsley) FitzGibbon in Madison, WI, Susan often spoke fondly of her childhood on her family farm. She found great joy in horseback riding, caring for her animals and participating in numerous 4-H competitions, particularly showing livestock, earning her numerous awards that she treasured and kept throughout her life.
Susan attended the University of Wisconsin–Madison, where she earned both her Bachelor's and Master's degrees in social work. She later married and started her family in Sheboygan, where she proudly served her community as a local alderman for eight years. Her lifelong passion for helping others defined her career as a Social Worker and later as the Deputy Director of the Human Services Department in Manitowoc, a role she held until her retirement.
A dedicated community advocate, Susan was an active member of the Elks and the League of Women Voters. She also served on the board of directors for Painting Pathways, a nonprofit organization supporting individuals with mental health concerns. Susan supported many local charities, including the Salvation Army, reflecting her deep commitment to making a difference.
In her free time, Susan enjoyed golfing, cheering on UW sports teams, and she loved horse racing, with a particular fondness for the Triple Crown derbies. Susan always had a newspaper and a word or Sudoku puzzle in front of her, making sure she remained sharp and informed.
Susan is survived by her loving sons, Paul (DeAnna) Lind and Patrick (Sharon) Lind; her cherished granddaughter, Alexandra; her former husband, Lloyd Lind; as well as nieces, nephews, and dear friends who will miss her deeply. She was preceded in death by her parents, Wayne and Frances (Balsley) FitzGibbon; her brothers, William "Bill" FitzGibbon and John FitzGibbon, and her sister-in-law, Janice FitzGibbon.
The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to Debbie and the staff at Field of Dreams Assisted Living in Kiel for their compassionate care during Susan's final months.
