Obituary

Robert W. Lindow, age 97, left this earth for his heavenly home on February 4, 2024.  Robert was born September 5, 1926 in the town of Plymouth, to the late William and Hermina (Klingsporn) Lindow.  Robert graduated from Central High School and went on to serve a brief stint in the Coast Guard, having to return home to help take care of his mother when she became ill.  He went to work for his father at Lindow Wilbert  Burial Vaults, Inc.  When his dad retired he and his brother James bought the business and ran it together.  After his brothers passing Robert became the sole owner.

Robert met his future wife, Rachel Gessert, in downtown Sheboygan at a favorite young person gathering spot and was smitten when he saw her.  He asked her for a date and she accepted.  On Nov. 2, 1949, they were married.  Rachel was the one and only love of his life.  Five years into their marriage, they still did not have any children so they decided to start the adoption process.  The same week, the adoption agency called to tell them they had a baby for them, they found out they were pregnant.  They went on to have four children. Rachel preceded him in death on May 12, 2000.

Robert was a long-time member of the Elks Club and First United Lutheran Church.  He loved the Lord and all the splendor of God's creation.  He received great joy from seeing his grandchildren and great-grandchildren who visited him often.  He was very proud of them all.

In Robert's spare time, he played softball and enjoyed hunting and fishing, but golfing became his main passion later in life.  He was a season pass holder and a fixture at Town and Country Golf Course.  He golfed every day, no matter what the weather and he walked the course until he was well into his eighties.  He made many life-long friends through his love of golf.  He and his wife Rachel were also active in swim aerobics, swimming several times a week at the Central High Pool.

In the last ten years, his son Jeff was exceptionally wonderful as his main caregiver making it possible for our dad to remain in his home that he loved until he was ninety-seven years young!

Robert is survived by his children, Jane (Larry) Dietrich, Jack Lindow, William (Laurie) Lindow and Jeffrey Lindow, his grandchildren, Tori (Edgar) Torres, Daniel (Jamie) Dietrich, Amanda Lindow (Norman) and Taylor Lindow; his great grandchildren, Jaiden, Lily, Vada and Adele Lindow; step great-grandchildren: Emilee and Evan Torres; his special niece, Kathy Mattern; his nephews, David (Judy) and Jay (Carrie) Lindow and his dear friend, Ron Halwachs.

In addition to his parents and wife of 51 years, he was preceded in death by his mother-in-law and father-in-law, Milton and Virginia Gessert, his sister, Eloise (William) Mattern, his brother, James (Helen) Lindow and his beloved dog Brownie.

Per Robert's wishes, private family services will be held.  He will be buried next to his wife at Lutheran Cemetery in the family plot.  Special thanks to Sharon S. Richardson Community Hospice for keeping our dad comfortable through his end of life journey.  Memorials can be sent directly to the  Sharon S. Richardson Community Hospice in his name.  W2850 State Road 28, Sheboygan Falls, WI  53085

Laughter is your heart singing.  You were always so full of songs.  Dear Dad, we will miss your sweet melody!
