Richard
Broetzmann
May 12, 1956 — Mar 17, 2026
Kiel
Richard "Rick" Edward Broetzmann, 69, of Kiel, WI, passed away peacefully on March 17, 2026. Rick was born on May 12, 1956 in Milwaukee, to the late LeRoy and Charlotte Broetzmann.
Rick was an incredibly proud father. He loved supporting his children in all their activities, whether it was attending Tae Kwon Do tournaments, watching a halftime Pom Pons routine, or spectating Destination Imagination tournaments. He was always there to offer encouragement and support, raising his children with his wife.
He especially cherished time at Wilke Lake, where he created lasting memories with his family. Those years were filled with early mornings and late nights fishing, tens of thousands of laps around the lake in the boat, and the annual mission of being the first dock in the lake and the last dock out, even if that meant chiseling out the ice to accomplish that mission.
Rick spent his career working his way through the ranks of the construction industry as a laborer, refractory bricklayer, foreman, and general manager. He was a member of BAC Local 8 for 40 years. He was mechanically and technically gifted. There was no home repair, automotive project, or fabrication job too big or too small for him to tackle, and he loved sharing his gift with others.
In retirement, Rick was able to do exactly what he loved most. He golfed with friends, fished, enjoyed and embraced all the weather events of Eastern Wisconsin, and cheered on the Packers. He built an incredible network of friends. He loved getting out on the golf course nearly every day and enjoyed the camaraderie of a golf outing and meeting new friends.
He is survived by his wife, Laurie; his sister, Bonnie Krueger; his brother, Ron (Jo Ann) Broetzmann; his daughter, Nikki (Mike) Chivas); his son, Mike (Sarah) Broetzmann; two beloved grandchildren, Calvin and Florence Broetzmann, niece, nephew, and many friends.
The family is deeply grateful to Scott and Jane Umland. From the bottom of our hearts, thank you for everything you have provided and for your unwavering support during this challenging time.
Rick never wanted a funeral or services. "All you do at funerals is cry and be sad, and that is no fun for anyone," and the family is honoring his wishes. Cremation has taken place. Memorial donations may be made to National Audubon Society or to the Lakeshore Humane Society.
