Mary A. Vogel, 93, of Kiel, passed away peacefully on Sunday, April 28, 2024, surrounded by her loving family. She was born on May 17, 1930, to Cyril and Helen (Gintner) Marlborough. She attended St. Mary Catholic School in Clarks Mills and graduated with honors from Valders High School in 1948.
On June 26, 1954, she married the love of her life, Chester Vogel, at the Quonset Point Rhode Island Naval Air Station Chapel. She was active in the family businesses, Vogel School Hill Garage, and later, Vogel Chevrolet-Olds in Kiel. She enjoyed traveling and spending time with her children and grandchildren. Her husband, children, and grandchildren were always her richest blessings.
Mary had an amazing ability to remember people, places, events, and dates. She loved meeting new people, and if she met you once, she would never forget you. She made everyone feel loved and special.
She enjoyed helping others through volunteering in the community, most recently at St. Vincent de Paul. She was an active member of SS Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Kiel and the Kiel VFW Auxiliary. She was an avid Green Bay Packers fan, season ticket holder, and attended the infamous "Ice Bowl."
Mary is survived by her children: Jim (Sandy) Vogel of Kiel, Jayne (Jeff) Nilles of Los Altos, California, Jean (Ken) Binversie of St. Nazianz, Judy (Rene) Jelinek of Kiel, Jodi (Terry) Riesterer of Menomonee Falls, and Jill Vogel Weigert (fiancé Scott Tanner) of Chilton; grandchildren: Brad Vogel, Jason Vogel, Sarah (Max) Ames, Melissa Nilles (Cedric Lamour), Christina Nilles (Britton Haynes), Holly (Steve) Haensgen, Katie Binversie (Jared Morris), Kelly Jelinek, Elton Jelinek, Garrett (Tess) Jelinek, Jamie (Kyle) Tamboli, Jenna Riesterer, Jessi Riesterer, Alex Weigert, and Addison Weigert; and great-grandchildren: Adler Ames, Cooper Haensgen, Makenzie Morris, and Noah Morris. She is further survived by her sisters: Kate Lambries and Carole (Roger) Schamburek, and sister-in-law: Shirley Kimberlain.
She was preceded in death by her husband; son Jack Vogel; parents; father-in-law and mother-in-law Walter and Marie Vogel; brothers Jim (Anna Mae) Marlborough and Don (J'Ette) Marlborough; sisters Odie (Jim) Kautzer, Madge (Dave) Burich; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law Sam Lambries, Marian (Lambert) Christel, Charles (Alyce) Vogel, and Jim Kimberlain.
A Mass of Christian Burial for Mary will be celebrated at 12:00 pm on Saturday, May 4, 2024, at SS Peter and Paul Catholic Church, (423 Fremont Street, Kiel). A visitation will be held in the church on Saturday from 9:00 am until 11:30 am at which time there will be family rites.
The family would like to thank Dr. Lee at Calumet Medical Center and the staff at Lakehouse New Holstein Assisted Living for the care and compassion that was given to their mom during the time she was there.
In lieu of flowers, memorials have been established for St. Vincent de Paul, Kiel, and the Kiel Community Food Pantry.
To My Family
When I must leave you for a little while,
Please do not grieve and shed wild tears
And hug your sorrow to you through the years,
But start out bravely with a gallant smile;
And for my sake and in my name
Live on and do all things the same,
Feed not your loneliness on empty days,
But fill each waking hour in useful ways,
Reach out your hand in comfort and in cheer
And I in turn will comfort you and hold you near;
And never, never be afraid to die,
For we are waiting for you, with God, in the sky!
