Marilyn Nielsen, 76 of Kiel, passed away on Monday evening, November 4, 2024. Marilyn was born September 30, 1948, in Des Plains, Illinois, to the late Herman and Emma (Sell) Deering. She graduated from Conant High School in Illinois in 1966. On January 22, 1966, she married John Nielsen in Illinois. She was an auxiliary member of VFW Post 6707 in Kiel, where she served as the rentals coordinator.

She is survived by her children, John Jr. (Kim) Nielsen and Julie (Bob) Mattingly; her grandchildren, Matthew Nielsen, Brian (Julia) Nielsen, Zachary Coster (Fiancée Mya), Emily Ernsperger, Thomas (Savanah) Coster, Katherine Coster, Grace Coster, Liesl Coster and Maxwell Mattingly; her great-grandchildren, Annily, Elijah, Alexander, Isla and Kairi; her son-in-law, Dan Coster and her sister-in-law, Sandra Deering.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband John, her daughter, Abby Coster, and her brothers.

A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, November 12, 2024 at 11:00 a.m., at Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church (19214 County Hwy XX, Kiel) with Rev. Ted Olsen officiating. Visitation will be held at the church, on Tuesday, from 9:30 a.m. until 10:45 a.m. Burial will be in the church cemetery at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established to be used for Zion Lutheran Church and Kiel VFW Post 6707.
