Kenneth L.
Spindler
Oct 15, 1942 — Mar 30, 2026
Elkhart Lake
Kenneth Lawrence Spindler was born on October 15, 1942, to Harvey and Cecelia (Shuricht) Spindler in the Town of Herman, Sheboygan County, Wisconsin. Ken grew up on the family dairy farm along County Highway MM near the Sheboygan River, where hard work, responsibility, and dedication were simply a way of life.
Ken began his education at Rhine Center School, a one-room schoolhouse he attended through eighth grade. He later graduated from Kiel High School in 1960, where he played the saxophone in the school band and distinguished himself as a standout member of the math team.
Following high school, Ken pursued higher education at the University of Wisconsin–Oshkosh, earning a bachelor's degree in business with a minor in mathematics in 1968. During his college years, he worked as a milk delivery driver for Lake to Lake, beginning his days at 3:00 a.m. After graduation, Ken began a long and impactful career at Fox Valley Technical College in 1970 as a mathematics instructor. Over 31 years at FVTC, he taught college algebra, business math, and basic math, served as lead math instructor, and was elected president of the Fox Valley Technical College Faculty Association, an affiliate of the Wisconsin Education Council (WEAC). Ken retired in 2001, leaving behind a legacy of dedication, leadership, and care for his students and colleagues.
Ken married Nancy Jaschob on December 28, 1962. In March of 1964, they welcomed their first child, Elizabeth Spindler, followed by their son Matthew Spindler in September of 1972.
Outside of work, Ken enjoyed golfing in a league with friends and colleagues and spending time playing cards with friends. Ken devoted many hours to volunteering with the Oshkosh YMCA Dolphins Swim Team, where both Elizabeth and Matt swam, and even served as president of the swim team parents' group.
Ken was a supporter of the natural environment. When he and Nancy purchased the farm where he was raised, they set about planting thousands of trees, establishing acres of tall-grass prairie, and creating native pollinator plots to support wildlife and healthier soils. Ken also loved riding the Farmall M tractor, his father had purchased new in 1948, and mowing the prairie fields each fall with a sickle mower.
Ken was preceded in death by his parents, Harvey and Cecelia Spindler; his parents-in-law, Hubert and Janet Jaschob; and brothers-in-law Robert Johannes and Dennis Jaschob.
Ken is survived by Nancy Spindler, his wife of 62 years; his two children, Elizabeth (Ben Maher) Spindler of Gleason and Matthew (Sheila) Spindler of Green Bay; six grandchildren, James (Michelle) Brown of Stevens Point, Jennifer (Chris) Thies of Naperville, Justin (Shamayne) Brown of Fond du Lac, Keaton Spindler of Chicago, Carson Spindler of Madison, and Katie Spindler of Green Bay; Step-grandchildren, Noah and Danielle Maher of Gleason; and three great-grandchildren, James Brown Jr. and Ellen Brown, both of Stevens Point, and Baron Brown of Fond du Lac.
He is also survived by his sister, Janet (Robert) Johannes; nephews Tony Johannes of Kiel and Brad Johannes of Milwaukee; along with many other beloved nieces and nephews whom Ken cared for deeply and remained proud of throughout his life.
A celebration of life will be held in late spring or early summer; details will be announced at a later date.
