Obituary

Karen P. Stoeckigt (Ma Stags) of Kiel passed away peacefully at home Tuesday, October 6 th with loved ones by her side. She was born November 13th, 1951 in Sheboygan, Wisconsin, daughter of Elizabeth and Richard Mangan. She was a graduate of Kiel High School, class of 1970.

She met her loving husband Gary Stoeckigt of Kiel and they married on September 9 th, 1972 at SS Peter & Paul Catholic Church, Kiel.

Karen worked as an administrative assistant for Kohler Company before joining her husband, Gary, in running their family business, Stoeckigt’s Flooring Installation.

Karen’s happiest moments were spent with the people she loved most. She treasured the laughter and companionship of her friends, often pulling pranks with those closest to her. She was a devoted mother to her son Corey and daughter Kelly, never missing a single sporting event and proudly supporting each of their individual activities. Nothing brought her more joy than being “Grandma” to Dominic and Everett, who were the light of her life. She found peace in nature, in her garden, and had a gentle way with animals. Every summer she gathered caterpillars from the yard and cared for them as they became monarch butterflies, a small tradition that reflected her tender, nurturing spirit. She also cherished the quiet of fishing, finding solace in the stillness of the water. Karen took great pride in her Irish heritage and joyously celebrated on St. Patrick’s Day each year with the people she held dear.

She is survived by her husband, Gary Stoeckigt of Kiel, and her two children: Kelly (Deanna) of Milwaukee and Corey (Kim) of Oak Creek. She is also survived by her two grandchildren; sister Kathryn Berrend; and sisters-in-law Mary Ann Vogel, Geraldine Scheffler, Ruth Stoeckigt, and Jean Stoeckigt. She was known as Aunt Karen to many nieces and nephews and as Ma Stags to many of her children's friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents Richard and Elizabeth Mangan; father- and mother-in-law Walter and Orvilla Stoeckigt; brother Kenneth Mangan and wife Nancy; brothers-in-law Eugene Stoeckigt, Karl Stoeckigt, Ronald Scheffler, Wayne Vogel and Richard Berrend.

A memorial service will be held on Thursday, October 15, 2026, at 3:00 p.m. at Meiselwitz-Vollstedt-DeTroye Funeral Home (815 6th Street, Kiel) with Chaplain Joe Zenk officiating. Visitation will be on Thursday, at the funeral home, from 1:00 p.m. until 2:45 p.m., when brief family rites will be held. Burial will follow at Ss. Peter and Paul Catholic Cemetery.

The family would like to thank all of the staff at Sharon Richardson Community Hospice for their immense kindness and support, with special thanks to Mellisa and Shannon, who cared for Karen with such tenderness, compassion, and dignity. We are also deeply grateful for the steady, comforting presence of Karen's longtime friend, Lisa Konen, who selflessly spent many hours supporting Karen and the family.
