Jill J.
Sheets
Apr 26, 1971 — May 21, 2025
New Holstein
Jill Wehmeyer Sheets, 54, of New Holstein, passed away peacefully on Wednesday May 21, 2025, after a year-long battle with cancer. Her loving family was by her side throughout the entire fight.
Jill was born April 26, 1971, to Robert and Sharron (Kernan) Grapentine in Menasha. She was a 1989 graduate of Chilton High School. Jill attended Silver Lake College on an athletic scholarship playing volleyball and majoring in Special Education. After college she worked for Heritage Insurance and later for Acuity Insurance in Sheboygan for 33 years.
Jill's most prized accomplishment was being a mother to Connor and Riley; they were her whole world. From following Connor on his snowmobile trips out west, living his dream of riding in the mountains, to watching the ice fishing videos that Riley created on his weeklong fishing trips. Jill was immensely proud of their shared love of nature and hunting. More recently, she took great pride in watching Connor's concrete business grow, especially with Riley joining the team full-time.
As young boys, she spent countless hours running to sporting events, always their biggest cheerleader. She especially cherished Thursday nights in the summer watching Riley play softball-even when she wasn't feeling her best.
In the fall of 2020, Jill married Steve Sheets, and her family grew with the addition of two more boys, Ty and Dominick, whom she welcomed with open arms. She loved watching them grow and played an important role in helping them become the men they are today. Jill was there for move in day at college for both boys and was happy to see them enjoying the college life chasing their dreams.
Jill and Steve enjoyed traveling whenever time allowed-visiting Texas, Florida, Mexico, the Caribbean, and making many trips up north to do what she loved the most: snowmobiling. Jill absolutely loved winter- the snowmobile trips and the smell of two-cycle oil burning. In addition to snowmobiling, she had a deep love of the outdoors and excelled in landscaping and flower gardening. She was a Master Gardener and Certified Landscape Designer.
Jill was the life of the party-an extremely organized, driven person whose contagious loud and memorable laugh will never be forgotten.
Jill is survived by her husband Steve; her children, Connor and Riley Wehmeyer; stepsons, Ty and Dom Sheets; her parents, Robert and Sharron (Kernan) Grapentine; her siblings: Robert (Gina) Grapentine, Kelly (Hugh) Prosser, David (Janine) Grapentine and Jennifer (Michael) Smith. Jill is also survived by many nephews and nieces Andrew, Marissa, Brady and Emma Grapentine, Jared (Heather) Grapentine, Samantha Sammons-Grapentine, Emily Smits, Jor (Lou) Grapentine-Ashcraft, Crystal Brandt, James Vande Heuvel, Kaitlyn and Ian Smith. She is also survived by her mother-in-law Elaine Sheets, sister-in-law, Karen (Randy) Nenne, nieces Olivia (Ryan) Stewart, Allison (Tony) Norman along with several great-nieces and great-nephews. She had a special relationship with Susan Wehmeyer (PITA), along with many of Susans children and grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her brother, Chris Grapentine; her grandparents, Walter and Sadie Grapentine and Geraldine LaVoie; and her uncle, Steve Grapentine.
