New Holstein
Jane G. Schaar, age 96, of New Holstein, died peacefully on Tuesday evening, August 1, 2023 at Willowpark Place, of New Holstein (currently Lakehouse) with her family by her side.
Jane was born on November 28, 1926 to the late Edward & Alice (Eberlin) Garbe. She was a graduate of Racine County School of Agriculture and Domestic Economy with the class of 1944. Jane continued her education with the University of Wisconsin, graduating with a Teaching Degree in Home Economics and Chemistry in 1949. Jane married Orville T. "Jack" Schaar on August 5, 1950 at South Raymond Trinity Lutheran Rural Church, in Franksville. Orv preceded her in death on December 22, 1995. Jane worked in the area as a Home Economics teacher for over 40 years, with most of her years teaching for the New Holstein Public School District, retiring in 1989. Jane was known best for her "Bachelor Living" class that she taught to many of the students in New Holstein. She also owned Schaar's Service Station for many years with Orv and continued to reside there after Bruce took over the station.
Jane was not one to let the dust settle under her feet, when her children were young she could have been found encouraging them to be involved in many activities; that continued with her grandchildren as well. Family was very important to her, she enjoyed teaching them so many important lessons of life. She was an active member of Zion Lutheran Church, New Holstein, Jane enjoyed her time with the Zion Women and Mission and was a youth leader with Orv for over 25 years, Eaton Cemetery Ladies Aid; Calumet County Homemakers, and the American Legion Auxiliary. Jane looked forward to her volunteer time with the Kaytee Avian Center, which she would enjoy taking her grandchildren to assist with feeding the birds. Jane was instrumental in the founding of the Calumet County HCE and was very proud to be the treasurer of Mental Health of Calumet County organization.
Jane is survived by her daughter: Ann (Jeff) Webber, New Holstein; daughter-in-law: Mary Schaar; four grandchildren: Sonny, April (Luke) Lisch, Jacob Webber (Amanda) and Kristin (Curtis) Schmitt; two great-grandchildren: Kinsley and Adalyn Lisch. She is further survived by many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Jane was preceded in death by her husband: Orville; son: Bruce; her parents: Ed and Alice Garbe; father-in-law and mother-in-law: Hans and Eugenia "Jennie" Schaar; and a sister-in-law: Alice (Jerome) Schmitz.
Funeral Services for Jane will be held at 11:00AM on Monday, August 7, 2023 at Zion Lutheran Church, 1702 Van Buren Street, New Holstein with Rev. Azor Cigelske officiating the service. She will be laid to rest next to Orv at Eaton Cemetery, in the town of Eaton. The family will greet relatives and friends at the church from 9:00AM until 10:45AM when brief family rites will be held. A Memorial Fund will be established in Jane's name.
The family would like to thank the Calumet County Hospice Staff as well as the staff at Willowpark for taking great care of mom during her stay. A special heartfelt thank you to Pastor Azor as well as everyone that came to visit mom during her time at Willowpark, your visits with her meant everything to mom; also, Carol Miller (Jane's niece) for all of your care and compassion.
