Obituary

Jane (Wedemeyer) Markelz, age 87 of Sheboygan Falls, died peacefully with her family by her side on Friday morning, July 8, 2022 at Sharon S. Richardson Hospice, Sheboygan Falls.

Jane was born on January 30, 1935 in Sheboygan, born to the late Frederick and Esther (Grube) Wedemeyer.  She attended Washington Grade School and was a graduate of Sheboygan North High School.  After graduating high school, Jane continued her education at Columbia School of Nursing.  On March 2, 1957 she married Robert Markelz, her high school sweetheart.  Together, they enjoyed 65 wonderful years together.   Jane and Bob raised four children Peter, James, Roberta and Sarah.  For 6 years, Jane and Bob were loving foster parents to 28 newborns, some of whom they still hear from to this day. They were active members of Bethlehem UCC of rural Kiel, where they have worshiped for over 30 years.

Together, they enjoyed camping throughout Wisconsin and Florida and also other parts of this beautiful country.  After retirement, Jane and Bob spent 20 years of winter in Florida where they enjoyed swimming and meeting many new friends.  After traveling to Florida for many years, they decided to stay in Wisconsin and have spent the past 6 years at their "little piece of heaven" at Hidden Ridge in Sturgeon Bay.

She is survived by her husband: Bob; four children: Peter (Karen McDowell), James, Roberta (Gary Meyer) and Sarah (Thomas Resch); eight grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.  Jane is further survived by a brother-in-law: Anton Markelz, nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.

Jane was preceded in death by her parents, grandparents, sister: Mary (Robert) Hill; sister-in-law: Marian (Wegman) Markelz and in-laws: Mary and Anton Markelz as well as aunts and uncles.

Per Jane's wishes, cremation has taken place.  A Funeral Service for Jane will be held at 5:00PM on Wednesday, July 13, 2022 at Bethlehem UCC (11608 Lax Chapel Road, Kiel).  Officiating at the service will be Rev. Kim Henning and assisting at the service will be Rev. Roy Rogers.  The family will greet relatives and friends at the church on Wednesday from 3:00PM until the time of service at 5:00PM.
