Obituary

Herbert E. (WC) Garlieb, age 88 of rural Kiel took a sentimental journey on June 30, 2017.

Born September 4, 1928 in the town of Meeme, Manitowoc County to Edwin and Edna (nee Thieleke) Garlieb he attended Pigeon River Grade School and graduated from Kiel High School in 1946. Herb served in the United States Army as a wheeled vehicle mechanic, as an interpreter, and was an M1 rifle expert. While stationed in Germany he met and married the love of his life, Edeltraud (Trudy) Schundner on April 7, 1956.

Herb loved music and was an accomplished button accordion player. No family birthday celebration was complete without Herb's accordion version of "Happy Birthday." Herb played for more than 40 years with the Sheboygan Accordion Club and was a club director for 25 years. He also played keyboard and harmonica. Singing was another much loved pastime. He was a member of the Manitowoc Freier Sangerbund serving as its president for 15 years. He was a member of the Sheboygan Concordia Singing Society as well, serving as vice president for a time. As a young man he also enjoyed acting and joined the Sheboygan Community Players for several productions.
