Obituary

Evelyn Marie Saiz, 66, passed away unexpectedly on July 6, 2026, in Manitowoc. Born in New Mexico on November 29, 1959, she was the cherished only child of Jimmy D. Saiz and Shirley Sue Birdsong Saiz.

Evelyn lived a life defined by compassion, adventure, and an unwavering love for others. A dedicated professional, she proudly served as a behavioral health worker for over 30 years, leaving a profound and lasting impact on the local recovery community. Breaking barriers, she also drove a truck, taking immense pride in being the first and only woman in her family to follow in the professional footsteps of her father and uncles. Her time on the road allowed her to travel widely, crossing numerous destinations off her lifelong bucket list.

From her earliest days, Evelyn possessed a rare and magical connection with animals. Growing up, she earned the affectionate nickname "Cat Tamer" because neighborhood cats would follow her wherever she went. This lifelong passion for animals stayed with her always.

Evelyn was a fun-loving spirit who brought warmth and color—especially her favorite color, purple—into the world. She had a deep love for music and seized every opportunity to attend live concerts. Known as a friend to everyone, Evelyn was always willing to lend her support, guidance, and assistance to anyone in need.

She is survived by her loving daughter, Shanan Trevino, who was her pride and joy. She is further survived by the four cherished dogs she shared with her daughter, as well as an extensive circle of relatives and friends who absolutely adored her.

A celebration of life will take place at a later date to honor Evelyn's vibrant life and legacy.
