Obituary

A Life in Christ

Elaine Hulda Waack went to sleep in the Lord on March 5, 2025. She was born to Martha and Melvin Henschel on August 19, 1938 in Sheboygan, WI. Elaine was baptized into the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ at Sheboygan Memorial Hospital where she spent her first year of life. She later was confirmed in her faith at Trinity Lutheran Church, Howards Grove, WI. She was kept in her baptismal faith by reading, listening to the Word of God and receiving the Lord's Supper at Zion Lutheran Church, New Holstein, WI.

The Lord provided a great education for Elaine at Kiel High School, graduated from Central High, Sheboygan, and Concordia Teacher's College Seward, Nebraska where she attended up until 1959. Teaching others in a gentle and clear way at Ebenezer Lutheran School is how the Lord used Elaine to again share the faith.

Elaine lived out her faith as a loving daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother and friend. On July 9, 1960, officiated by her brothers Reverends Kenneth and Marvin Henschel, she was joined in marriage to Melvin Waack at Trinity Lutheran Church. They were blessed with five children, Bonnie, Lisa, Pam, Janelle and Ryan.

The Lord provided blessings of caring son-in-laws Todd Mattingly (Janelle), Gregg Battin (Lisa) and Reverend Lee Kuhns (Pam). Plus loving grandsons Karl Battin (wife Erin), Erik Battin, Zachary Mattingly, Joshua Mattingly, Benjamin Mattingly, and step-grandson Christopher Battin.

Elaine enjoyed God's creation by using her hands in canning, baking, sewing, gardening, cross stich, word search, playing cards and board games. She served Zion Lutheran Church as a Sunday School teacher. Elaine's faith shined brightly in her love towards God, family and friends.

Elaine shared her God-given skilled hands with her husband in an upholstery shop as the seamstress and bookkeeper, and with her children through piano lessons.

The precious Lord took Elaine by the hand as a babe and has led her home. She now is reunited with loved ones in heaven including son Ryan Waack, son-in-law Gregg Battin, brothers-in-law Butch Waack and Dale Horneck, brother Reverend Kenneth Henschel, sisters-in-law Shirley Henschel and Delores Krause, mother and father Melvin and Martha Henschel and mother and father-in-law Esther and Norbert Waack.

Thanks be to God for a lifetime of blessings!
