Dorothy Ann

St. Anna
Dorothy Ann Roehrig completed her journey to God on Monday, December 31, 2018. She was surrounded by loving family and care givers at the Villa Loretto Nursing home in Mt. Calvary.
Dorothy was born February 12, 1921 in St. Anna. Her parents were Alvis & Josephine (Steffes) Brandt. She attended St. Ann Catholic School in St. Anna and was a 1938 graduate of Kiel High School.
When her fiancé, Harold, was called to fight in World War II, Dorothy waited 4 years for him to return so they could be married. On August 16, 1945 they were joined in Holy Matrimony at St. Ann Church in St. Anna.
Dorothy stayed home and cared for her 5 children for many many years. She loved being a mother and caring for her family.

Her love of children and caring nature was an ever present part of her life. She was a Den Mother for her Cub Scout sons and other area boys from 1957 until 1960. After her retirement she volunteered at the New Holstein Middle School for eight years. She read books and mentored to children who needed some TLC with their studies. She spread her caring wings again and volunteered at St. Nicholas Hospital to spend time and attend to seriously ill patients in need of extra care and love.
She was a member of the St. Ann Craft Group and enjoyed the Tuesday morning gatherings to do plastic canvas, counted cross stitch, knitting and crocheting. Coffee and time with the girls was something she looked forward to each week.
Dorothy proclaimed her faith in God in many ways during her life. She was a member of the choir for 20 years, was an active part of the Liturgy Committee and was a part of the group that cooked many church dinners and funeral dinners over the years.
At St. Ann Church, Dorothy became an active part of the liturgy, choosing the role of " "Proclaimer", where she used her reading abilities to proclaim her faith and share her love of God and his good news with the faith community in St. Anna. After suffering a stroke that affected her speech, Dorothy still continued her role as a Proclaimer until she was 95 years old.
Dorothy's hands were always busy doing something. She loved to sew, crochet, knit, work on Cross Word Puzzles and Find a Work books.
She cherished the visits and any time she could spent with her grandchildren, great-grandchildren and her great great grandchildren up to the end of her life. They knew her as "great grandma", "great nanny" and "nanna".

Gary, Tom, Kathy & Joel wish to thank the very special group of care givers at the Villa Loretto Nursing Home. All of the nurses, CNA's, therapists, activity staff, housekeeping staff, and volunteers added a social component to Mom's life every day. In the years that Mom lived there she was shown love, compassion, kindness and caring by the people that were with her each day. Her big smile told everyone she loved them all.
God Bless All of You.
