Dorothy C. Schnell, 80, of Kiel, passed away Sunday, January 28, 2024, at Aurora Medical Center in Sheboygan.

Dorothy was born August 23, 1943, in Sheboygan, to the late William and Hulda (Awe) Herwig. She was a graduate of Kiel High School with the class of 1961.  On August 24, 1963, she married Richard Schnell; together they celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary this summer, along with her 80th birthday.

She was employed by HG Weber and McDonald's for over 15 years.  She also ran Dot's Tots Daycare for over 40 years. She was called "Grandma Dorothy" by all the children she welcomed in their house.  She was given a book at her 80th birthday with meaningful messages from a lot of the children she took care of over the years.  Faith was very important to Dorothy and she instilled that into her family.  She was a very active member of St. Peter's United Church of Christ, she enjoyed her time on the Cherry Tree Committee as well as organizations at church.  Dorothy was very dedicated to her family, never missing her grandchildrens events, whether it be sports, concerts or any other school event, she was sure to be there with Dick.  Dorothy found time to enjoy a good book, cross-stitch, do word searches, garden and canning her fruits and vegetables.  Dorothy would make sure Christmas was filled with tradition, love and joy of gift giving.  Making sure everyone got the gift that they always wanted, which didn't end there, she made sure to have everyone's dessert on the table when it came to family meals; many times making a few different desserts so everyone could enjoy their favorite.

In addition to her husband, Dick, she is survived by her children, Charles (Deb) Schnell, Valders, Michael (Mardell) Schnell, Kiel and Christine (Chris) Hartwig, Fond du Lac; her grandchildren, Bryanna (Kaw-Liga) Maki, Mikayla (Fernando) Alvarez and Nathan Bischoff; her great-grandchildren, Lily, Xander and Charlotte Maki and Macksen Alvarez; her sister, Irene Drone and her sisters-in-law, Dorothy Herwig and Bernice Keller

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her grandson, Macullen Schnell, two brothers, Arno Herwig and Marvin Herwig; her brothers-in-law,  Sherman (Rosie) Schnell, Delyle Polster,  Ed Drone and Tom Keller and sister-in-law, Margaret Schnell.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, February 10, 2024  at 11:30 AM at St. Peter's United Church of Christ (424 Fremont Street, Kiel) with Rev. Nicole Herda officiating.   Visitation will be held at church on Saturday morning  from 9:00AM until 11:15AM when brief family rites will be held. Interment will follow at Eaton Cemetery.

Dorothy was the glue that held the family together and her smile will be missed the most.
