Obituary

Donald A. Baus, 77, passed away peacefully on April 1st, 2018 in Florida.  Don is survived by his loving wife, Janet; his six children, Mark (Janet) Baus, Lacey, WA; Tim (Kim) Baus, McAllen, TX; Scott (Sue) Baus Kiel, WI;  Bob (Denise) Baus, McKinney, TX; Lynn (Jim) Drexel, Menomonee Falls, WI; and Cheri (Steve) Vogel, Kiel, WI. He was a proud grandpa to 20 grandchildren. Don is also survived by his brothers Dennis (Rhonda) Baus, Michael (Paulette) Baus, Charlie (Theresa) Baus, his sister Lori (David) Sladky, sisters-in-law Terry Baus and Cathi Baus, and brother-in-law Ken (Jackie) Puetz. Don was preceded in death by his parents Valentine and Alvera Baus, brothers Richard Baus and David Baus, and grandbabies Scott Baus Jr. and Matthew Baus.

Don and Janet cherished 57 years of marriage. After raising six children, they enjoyed 20 years of retirement, splitting their time between Englewood, Florida and Kiel, Wisconsin.  In addition, many special memories were made over the last 50 years at their cottage on Cedar Lake.

Don served as an Officer in the U.S. Army.  He was very proud of his father's military service as a Naval Officer, his son Mark's career as a Colonel in the U.S. Army, and now two of his grandsons following their footsteps in the Marines (Ben) and National Guard (Chris).

Don valued education, attending Ss. Peter & Paul Catholic Grade School in Kiel, graduating high school from St. Norbert's in De Pere, earning a BS from Marquette University and a MS from UW Madison.  Although close to earning his doctorate from UW Madison, he didn't complete that degree because of the amount of time that he would have been away from his wife and children. Don was a true family man. His career included working for Burroughs in Wausau, WI in finance and data processing, as well as being part owner of the Ford Dealership in Kiel with his brother-in-law Ken Puetz. Don was employed for 30 years at Northeast Wisconsin Technical College in Green Bay. He was an educator at NWTC for 12 years and then a Vice President for 18 years until his retirement. During Don's career he was also a member of and held leadership positions in several Catholic churches and professional organizations .

Don's faith in God was central to his life,  providing strength during his 5 years of living with Multiple Myeloma Cancer. He was also an avid Green Bay Packers Fan. As a shareholder and season ticket owner, a special memory included attending the legendary Ice Bowl game. His friendly demeanor, ready smile, happy whistling, and good advice will be missed by many.

Funeral services for Don will be held at 11:30am on Friday, April 20, 2018 at SS Peter and Paul Catholic Church (413 Fremont St. Kiel.) Visitation for family and friends on Friday at the church from 9:30-11:30 with a mass to follow.
