Daniel Joseph
William Koenig
Jan 6, 1949 — Jan 29, 2025
Kiel
Daniel Joseph William Koenig, 76, of School Hill died unexpectedly on Wednesday morning January 29, 2025 at Holy Family Hospital, Manitowoc. He was born on January 6, 1949 in rural Kiel, son of the late Robert and Evelyn (Hoefler) Koenig. Danny attended Kiel schools and graduated from Kiel High School with the class of 1967.
During high school and for a short time after, he worked for the Joas Family Farm on Lax Chapel Rd. He also worked at Tecumseh Products until he was drafted. Danny was a proud veteran of the US Army where he attained the rank of Sergeant and served in Vietnam from 1969 until 1970. Upon returning home, he started his family and was a longtime dedicated employee of Tecumseh Products until his retirement and the closing of the company.
Danny was a lifetime member of VFW Post 6707 in Kiel. In 2022 he had the priviledge of taking the Honor Flight to Washington DC and was officially welcomed back home by friends and family. He cherished and maintained many friendships from his time in the Army and made time to visit and travel with his Army buddies whenever he had the chance.
In his free time he enjoyed attending and watching sporting events, traveling, spending time with family, his grandchildren, godchildren, nieces, nephews, and friends. He loved taking pictures, capturing the many memories he made and shared with all along the way. His friendliness knew no bounds—and was eager to strike up an interesting and heartfelt conversation with anyone he met. He never forgot a birthday or anniversary, and had a way of making everyone feel special with his big heart and unending thoughtfulness.
Danny had a nostalgia and love of old cars, tractors, life on the farm—and could often be found at car, tractor, or farm toy shows. He collected model cars and tractors that reminded him of his youth and growing up on the farm.
Survivors include his two sons; Wayne (Carrie) Koenig of Madison, Robby (Sara) Koenig of Milwaukee, grandchildren; Leo and Maya Koenig, Prior Koenig. Danny is also survived by his brother; Dennis (Jody) Koenig, sisters; Judy (Neil) Bratz, Pam (Randy) Bratz, sister-in-law; Helen Koenig. He is further survived by other relatives and many friends. He will be deeply missed by many.
He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers; Kenneth (Mary) Koenig and Richard and Keith Koenig.
Funeral Mass for Danny will be held at 1:30pm on Tuesday February 4, 2025 at Holy Trinity Catholic Church (11928 Marken Rd, Kiel "School Hill"). Burial with full Military Honors will be performed by the Kiel VFW in the parish cemetery. A time of visitation will take place on Tuesday at the church from 10:00am until 1:15pm.
In lieu of flowers a memorial has been established in his name.
Danny's family would like to thank the Valders First Responders and Ambulance Service along with Dr. Rebecca Reim and the ER staff at Holy Family Hospital for all their care and compassion. They would also like to thank Arik and Judy Schema and Marty O'Neil for the years of friendship and help they have given to Danny.
