Obituary

Annette Holtz, 84, of Rural Cleveland, passed away Thursday morning, December 23, 2021, after an extended battle with Parkinson's disease.

Annette was born September 27, 1937, in Algoma, to Oliver Ruhnke Sr., and Anna (Helebrant) Ruhnke.  She attended Kodan Grade School and graduated from Algoma High School, in 1955.  After high school she attended the Door/Kewaunee County Teachers College graduating in 1957.  She taught school for several years in rural Waukesha County.

In June 1960, she married Victor P (Vic) Holtz, of Manitowoc, at the Algoma United Methodist Church after which she traded teaching for starting and raising the family.

In August 1970, Vic accepted a teaching position at Kiel Middle School. The family moved to her current residence in May 1971.

She was an active member of St. John's United Church of Christ, Schwartzwald serving on the Christian Education Committee, Women's Guild and other activities. She was a long-time member of the Manitowoc County Homemakers Association and was a past leader with the Liberty Pole 4-H club.

She found joy in her home and yard, watching birds, flower gardens, friends, polka music and her grandchildren. She was a good cook and baker, always having a pan of bars, brownies or cake in the oven.

Survivors are her four children: Brad, Kyle, Todd and Amy (Jerry) Barrette and three grandchildren; Christopher, Erin and Brian Barrette. Also surviving is her sister, Claire Massart, six nieces and nephews and one cousin.

Annette was preceded in death by her parents and Vic, her husband of 33 years, in February 1994. Also preceding her passing was a brother, Oliver Jr. and sister, Bonnie Kuehn.

Funeral services for Annette will be held at 11:30 am on Monday, January 3, 2022 at St. John's "Schwartzwald" (W3401 Orchard Rd, Elkhart Lake).  Officiating at the service will be Rev. Melinda Feller with burial to follow in the church cemetery.

The family will greet relatives and friends at church from 9:30 am until 11:15 am.  Masks are encouraged during the service and visitation.

In lieu of flowers a memorial will be established at St. John's UCC "Schwartzwald".

The family wishes to thank everyone at Willowpark Place Senior Living and Sharon S. Richardson Community Hospice who assisted Annette as her illness advanced.

Mom, you were a wonderful mom who provided a good home. It's time to rest. Thank you for everything.
