Obituary

Anneliese Schubert, 90, of Kiel, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, Nov. 9, 2022, at Aurora Medical Center in Two Rivers, surrounded by her family.

Anneliese was born on April 17, 1932, in Beckum, Germany, the daughter of the late Anna Oeffelka and Hubert Kortenjan. Growing up during World War II, her childhood wasn't easy, but her family was able to get by with little. Anneliese attended school until the eighth grade when she began cooking for various households in the area.
On Dec. 24, 1952, she married Dieter Schubert in Rönsahl, Germany. With few opportunities available post-war, the couple decided to move to the United States.
On May 6, 1961, with the help of an American sponsor, Anneliese and Dieter immigrated to Crystal Lake, Wis., with three small children and just two suitcases. The family later moved to Sheboygan, where Anneliese worked in the kitchen at Memorial Hospital, and eventually on the knitting machines at Wigwam.
In 1974, the Schuberts moved to Kiel to start a hobby farm, and Anneliese worked as a cook at Kiel High School. What began as a summer gig for her daughter—dog sitting—quickly became a full-time job for Anneliese. The "Schubert Kennels Pet Resort" grew in popularity, and she added dog grooming to her repertoire. Anneliese ran the business with her husband until her retirement in 2007.
Anneliese will be remembered for her sweet spirit, delicious cooking, funny quips, stylish wardrobe, hardworking attitude, and as the loving matriarch of her family.
She is survived by her husband of nearly 70 years, Dieter of Kiel; her children Wolfgang (Sue) of Idaho, Siegfried (Agnes) of Budapest, Hungary, and Klaudia (Steve) of Kiel; her grandchildren Amanda (Matt) Zorn, Lauren Schnell, Kaitlyn Schnell, Lindsay (Cameron) Bennett, and Kimberly Schubert; her great-grandchildren Leo Bennett and Cayden Zorn; one great-grandson on the way; and various relatives in America and Germany.

Visitation will be held the same day at the church from 11 a.m. until 12:45 p.m.
