Alyce
Winkel
Mar 15, 1926 — Dec 20, 2024
New Holstein
Alyce A. Winkel, 98, was reunited with her husband on Dec.20, 2024, at Caring Hands Assisted Living in New Holstein, where she had been a resident for the last 6 years. She lived most of her life on a farm in rural Saint Anna.
She was born March 15, 1926, in Calumet County the daughter of the late Adolph & Elizabeth (Grewe) Kohlmann. Alyce attended grade school in New Holstein and graduated from New Holstein High School in 1944. On May 1, 1946, she married the love of her life Earl Winkel, at Holy Rosary Parish in New Holstein. She was a member of St. Ann Parish, St. Anna.
Alyce was raised in the city of New Holstein and would have been called a city girl, but after getting married Alyce farmed with her husband and son in the Town of Russell. It was nothing to find her driving a tractor or helping with milking the cows. Farming became her way of life that she got it down to a science. She was a member of Farm Bureau for many years and was named Women of the Year in 1987-88. Alyce always enjoyed a good game of golf and Friday night couples bowling.
She is survived her two children, James (Mary) Winkel of Rockville, Mary Lou (John) Poch of New Holstein, two grandchildren, Jeff (Kelly) Winkel, Susan Meyer, two great-grandchildren, Dylan (Beth) Winkel & Abbey Winkel, two great great-grandchildren, Josie Ann Grundl and Oaklynn James Winkel, sister-in-law Lois Penkwitz, brother-in-law John Schmitz, many nieces, nephews, relatives & friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband (Earl), one brother Walter Kohlmann, sister-in-law Pearl Kohlmann, sisters Josephine (Richard) Reese, Cyrilla (Pirmin) Schmitz, brothers-in-law Math (Bernice) Winkel, Robert (Kathleen) Winkel, sister-in-law Louise Schmitz and nephew Tom Winkel.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Friday, Jan. 3 at 11:00 a.m. with Father Carl Diederichs officiating, at St. Anna Catholic Church, N188 School Street, New Holstein, WI 53061 (St. Anna). Family and friends are invited to gather at the church in St. Anna on Friday, Jan. 3 from 9:30 to 10:45 a.m. for visitation. Private family burial service will be at Shrine of Rest in Fond du Lac, WI.
Alyce was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother who enjoyed working by Earl's side for so many years and taking care of each one of us, with a prayer or helping us get through life. We will miss her dearly, but know that she will live with us forever.
Special thanks to the owners and all the staff at Caring Hands Assisted Living and Calumet County Home Health /Hospice. You not only treated our mother as a resident, but cared for her as one of your own. Everyone went above and beyond for mom and our family and we are so very thankful for angels like you.
