Nelda B. Winkel

Nelda B. Winkel, 98, formerly of Kiel, passed away, Sunday, July 15, 2012 at Chilton Care Center, where she was a resident since September of 2010. She was born, April 26, 1914 in the Town of Rhine, daughter of the late Arthur and Lena (Klopf) Simonsmeier. Nelda attended Victory School in the Town of Rhine. On October 29, 1932 Nelda married Theodore Winkel in Elkhart Lake. The couple celebrated their 50th and 60th wedding anniversaries. The couple farmed in the Town of Meeme until 1968 when they moved to Kiel. Theodore preceded her in death on September 9, 1994. Nelda was a member of St. John's United Church of Christ, Schwarzwald, Town of Herman. She enjoyed playing cards and belonged to a number of card clubs in Kiel, playing with one club until May of this year. She was the last original member of the club. Survivors include two daughters: Joan (Donald) Lemke of Kiel, Betty Winkel of Kiel (special friend, Terry Kiel of St. Nazianz), one grandson, Kevin (Ann) Lemke of Kiel, two great grandchildren: Michael & Jessica Lemke, other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, three sisters and brothers-in-law, Norma (Edward) Prueter, Hilma (Arvin) Wagner and Florence (Harold) Kuhfuss. Funeral services for Nelda will be held at 6:30 pm, Thursday, July 19, 2012 at Meiselwitz-Vollstedt Funeral Home, 815 6th St., Kiel with Rev. DuWayne Hanke officiating. Burial will take place in St. John's Cemetery, Schwarzwald. Family and friends may call at the funeral home on Thursday from 4:00 pm until the time of service. A memorial has been established in her name. Nelda's family would like to thank the entire staff at Chilton Care Center for the wonderful care they gave her.
