Milan R. Neils

Milan Neils, age 91, of Kiel, died peacefully Monday afternoon, June 11, 2012 at Homestead Care Center, New Holstein where he resided the past six weeks. He was born July 19, 1920 in Milwaukee, son of the late William and Hattie (Platz) Neils. In 1924 he moved to the Town of Rhine with his family where he attended the Dewey School. As a young man, Milan worked as a milk hauler for S & R Cheese and at Cal & Gus Garage in Elkhart Lake. On April 27, 1946 he married Beatrice Mueller and they made their home in School Hill where they farmed until their retirement in 1982. Beatrice preceded him in death on March 6, 2000. Milan moved to Kiel in 2006. Milan was a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church, School Hill where he served as trustee when the existing church was built in 1967. He was a board member on both the School Hill and Osman cheese factories and charter member of the Hermitage Club and School Hill Men's Club. Milan attended Kelly Kramer's night school for area farmers for many years which he thoroughly enjoyed. Milan enjoyed gardening, woodworking, canning, playing cards and making sausage and maple syrup for and with his family. He also enjoyed Wednesday morning breakfast with his church group. He is survived by three sons, grandchildren and great grandchildren all of whom he was extremely proud of, Glenn (Laurie) Neils, and their families, Craig (Tola), Christopher (Jennifer), Elizabeth and Emma, Randy (Sandy) Neils and their families, Stephanie (Steven) Hicks, Lila and Olivia, Ryan (Jill) Neils and Brady, Mark (Sandy) Neils and their families, Joe (Nicole) , Mason, Ava and Kaden, Jon (Katie), Eric (Becky) and Levi, with another great grandchild due in August and Erin (fiancee, Ryan Gaedke) and Jaelyn. He is further survived by a very close nephew & niece, Terry (Sandy) Thiel and special neighbor, Cody Rabe, brothers and sisters, Jerome Neils, Kiel, Gladys Mueller, Louis Corners, Elwood (Joyce) Neils, Elkhart Lake, William (Theresa) Neils, Elkhart Lake, Lois Brault, Rosendale, sister-in-law, Mutzie Neils, Kiel, numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends. He was preceded in death by his wife, parents, two infant children, Mary & Gregory, one brother, Warren Neils, two sisters, Ruth (Henry) Arpke, Arleen (Hugh) Gahagan, brothers-in-law, Dale Brault, Milton Mueller, sisters-in-law, Jean Neils, Judith Mueller and Rita (Frederick) Thiel. The funeral Mass for Milan will be celebrated at 10:30 am, Friday, June 15, 2012 at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, School Hill with Rev. Patrick Nelson S.D.S. officiating and Deacon Jim Steffen assisting. Burial will take place in the church cemetery. Family and friends may call at the church on Thursday from 4:00 pm until 7:00 pm and on Friday at the church from 9:00 am until the time of service. A memorial has been established in his name. Milan's family would like to extend their thanks to the staff at Homestead Care Center for the wonderful care he received. “Here's to the good times we've shared and the memories we've made.
